Creating your own artwork: Design your own wall art for your house
Pablo Picasso once said, "A painting is just another way of keeping a diary." This statement holds a special place in our hearts. It takes time and effort to create your own artwork, and it must be done well. Particularly when attempting to turn memorable experiences into relatable artwork. Today, we'll examine the best approach to using the SensoriumArte customizer to properly create your own wall wart. To gain vital advice and tactics for furnishing each space in your home, we also turned to designers.
Design your own wall art with our customizer
With our customizer, we aimed to create an intuitive system that allows you to easily create your own artwork. Our goal is to provide you with as much creative freedom as possible so you can come up with something unique. We brought that to SensoriumArte by allowing people to add images and choose between different color palettes, different fonts, different art layouts, and of course, different templates. Just for our launch, we have created over 100 different template combinations, dedicated to a wide range of occasions. We’ve broken down each step below so you can create your personalized wall art before you know it.
Pick one of the templates
The first step in the customization process is picking a template that you like. We have tried our best to create a variety of templates that represent different occasions. We offer templates related to vacations, family, celebrations, motivation, the holiday season, and some other occasions. The template will be the starting point for your personalized art piece, which you can start editing in the next steps.
Upload your audio or video file
The next thing you have to do is upload the audio or video file you want to use. We use the sound from the file and convert it to a unique, one-of-a-kind soundwave. The soundwave will be one of the main elements of your art piece. Depending on the template you have picked, your soundwave will be adjusted to a certain length and width. For example, if you picked the template that is suitable for adding an image to the soundwave, the customizer will make sure your soundwave is larger. We also have templates that will emphasize the image you upload and will therefore have a smaller-sized soundwave.
Add images and pick a color palette for your artwork
The next step in creating your own artwork is picking both an image that you want to use, as well as picking a color palette that you wish to add. Templates that show images can easily be changed using the interactive customizer. You can easily click on the element on the customizer, and on the left side, the option to change the image will appear.
When creating the templates, we aimed to find a combination where we both offer templates with an image option, and templates without one. If images aren’t something you want to add, you can just pick a template that focuses on the color palettes. Together with a team of designers, we created color palettes that consist of matching colors suitable for different interior styles. We recommend you click through the different color palettes to see which one you like the most.
Add a personal message
Add this point, your unique soundwave should have already been placed on the canvas, your image of preference has been added and finally, your favorite color palette has been applied. Now it is time to add a personal touch by adding a personal text message. During the test phase, we noticed that people pick different types of text. With the ability to add a title and a subtitle, we saw people adding important locations where their proposal or marriage took place, the date of a deceased relative, their favorite song, or just a personal message for someone who needs some support.
The number of characters you can use depends on the font size you use. In most templates, we have added both the title and subtitle, but you can easily remove the text we provided to keep it clean and minimalistic.
You’ve done it! You have just successfully customized and designed your own wall art. All that is left to do is select the size and choose between a canvas, framed poster, or poster.
Design your own wall art for each room in your house
Creating your own artwork is one thing, but choosing the right piece to display throughout your house is just as difficult of a task. To guide you through the process of picking the perfect spot for your artwork, we checked what designers recommend.
Living room
Whether your living room is open-plan, on the smaller side, or long and more on the narrow side, there’s always room for personalized wall art. According to creative director Camilla Clarke, a living room should reflect its owners. Therefore, it’s important to pick something that resonates with you. Mix different sizes and don’t let one specific piece take the most prominent spot. Each piece you use deserves equal importance. In general, picking canvas art is the way to go for the living room. Play around with colors or keep things neutral if this better suits the rest of your interior design. Don’t forget to use focal points in the room. For example, a fireplace is the perfect focal point to display a painting that tells your own design story. Finally, it’s important to only use 50-75% of the width of the furniture you want to hang something over.
Bedroom
The bedroom is your personal space. More personal and emotional pieces would suit this room perfectly. Besides, long gone are the days when a bedroom with blank walls and a mattress was sufficient. The bedroom is primarily a space to unwind, relax, and sleep. Your art must validate this feeling. Go for art that has blue or natural tones, which help you nudge into sleep. It is best to stay away from red and orange tones since these are usually colors full of energy. In terms of placement, putting your artwork above or directly across from the bed is a great spot. If you prefer smaller pieces, you can go for multiple beside each other on the wall. On a shelf or your nightstand can work very well too. Especially when going for something above or to the opposite of the bed, we recommend going for landscape wall art.
The kids’ rooms also deserve some decoration. We love soundwave art based on a child's heartbeat, their first steps, or their first word. Keeping it minimalistic with just the soundwave can be a great choice.
Kitchen
Picking the right type of design depends on the kitchen. If you have an open-plan kitchen, you can go for a large-scale piece that contains bold colors to create a focal point. If you have a kitchen where wall space is limited, it can be more difficult to find a spot to hang your artwork. Smaller artwork is ideal for this situation. They can look great on top of the shelf or against a worktop.
Always make sure that your art matches the kitchen interior. If you have a lot of windows, using color schemes that incorporate elements of nature and water can be effective. If you have a smaller kitchen, perhaps go for a floral background image. Play around and experiment with what you have. In the end, you want your artwork to complement your decor.
Workspace
The workspace is something that has drastically changed over the last few years. With more opportunities to work from home, it’s time to give this spot some more attention. If work is something that keeps you away from family, artwork that centers around family is important to have. Perhaps some soundwave art including a family picture or an image of the last family holiday. Motivational art is also a great option. An image of your favorite athlete, with a video of a motivational speaker to get some Monday morning encouragement. We recommend artwork that motivates and gives a sense of calmness and power.
Dining room
This is the place to go bold. It’s the jewel box of the home, giving you a free pass to use bold colors and big art pieces. We recommend adding some pieces with a story. When friends come over, it can act as a great conversation starter. Just scan the art and let the guests see your favorite memories. Go for something that stands out, and fits the rest of your interior design.
Bathroom
The bathroom is so much more than a utilitarian space. It’s the one place where guests sit down and look around to see what’s hanging on the wall. Generally, go for something soothing and tranquil. Give guests the feeling like they’re at a spa. Above the toilet is usually the best place to hang your artwork. A soundwave artwork with a meaningful quote or a soothing nature shot is a great way to decorate the bathroom. When in doubt, stick with smaller sizes.
Design your own wall art specifically for each room
Although there are no wrongs and rights in decorating your house with art, it’s never a bad thing to get some pointers on styling, sizing, and placement. Each room in your house deserves that special artwork. Some rooms can handle some more colors, other rooms need a calm piece that reminds you to relax and stay focused. SensoriumArte offers a unique, interactive system that will help create your favorite personalized wall art.
